摘要

The present work provides a novel green technological approach to fabricate concrete pebbles based water purification device. The silver nanoparticles are generated in situ using glucose and embedded within the porous concrete pebbles by the technique of inter-diffusion of ion providing a very strong binding of nanoparticles within the porous pebbles and thus, prevent any nanomaterials toxicity. The system provides around 99% decontamination of microbial load with only 4 min of total contact time. The green technology based water purifier has very good reusability and shows an insignificant decrease in microbial decontamination efficacy even after 30-35 uses of the same pebbles within a time span of 6 months. Our device is very cost effective, reusable and suitable for the fabrication of a novel, user friendly tea bag like water purifier for microbial decontamination. Moreover the device does not require any source of energy/voltage or UV light for its functioning. This will also provide a way out for preventing pollution caused by using plastic water bottles.
