Evaluation of clusterbean germplasm against bacterial blight caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. Cyamopsidis

Clusterbean (Cyamopsis tetragonaloba (L.) Taub.) is an important leguminous crop of kharif season in arid and semi arid regions of India. India has unique status in the growing of clusterbean in the world because of congenial climatic conditions for its growth. About 3/4 of the global clusterbean cultivation is carried out in India. (1)Diseases constitute one of the serious constraints for successful clusterbean cultivation. All parts of clusterbean plant are susceptible to a number of pathogens many of which may appear simultaneously giving rise to disease complexes. The production ofclusterbean in terms of grain and fooder is limited mostly due to the destructive bacterial blight disease caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. Cyamopsidis (2,3). The damage of clus-terbean crop due to this disease has been estimated to the extent of 60 per cent in some area (4).
