Post-embryonic observations of the sesbania thrips Caliothrips indicus Bagnell - a pest of groundnut.

C. indicus is a pest of groundnut predominantly occurring in western India. The pest appears at early stage of the crop in severe form and sometimes even 15 days after sowing. The detailed biology has been worked out in the laboratory. The insect has egg, two larvae and two pupal stages, with an adult. The egg stage remains for 5 days, followed by 1st larva stage with 2 days, second larval stage with 2.7 days, 2 pupal stages with 2 and 1 days, respectively, and adult which lives for 10 days. The pre-oviposition period lasts for 0.36 days and oviposition continues for 3 days. The female lays an average of 25 eggs.
