摘要

High-performance computing (HPC) is necessary for remote-sensing image compression to achieve real-time output. There are one panchromatic and four multispectrum bands with a total 970-Mbps data rate in the Formosat-5 remote-sensing instrument. Three Xilinx Virtex 5 field-programmable gate array parts with external memory are used to perform real-time image data compression based on Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) 122.0-B-1 ["Image data compression," Recommendation for Space Data System Standards, CCSDS 122.0-B-1, CCSDS, Washington, DC (2005)]. Parallel and concurrent handling methodologies are used to achieve HPC in the image compression process with fewer multipliers, smaller memory buffers, and shorter process time.
