The present study evaluates the performance of two artificial feeds, PL+ 150 and F7 made from ingredients including decapsulated Artemia cysts, in terms of growth, and survival of Fenneropenaeus indicus postlarvae (1-18 days old). The two feeds were also evaluated for leaching of soluble protein. Growth of postlarvae (PL) fed on decapsulated A. cysts (shell free) was comparable to that on live A. nauplii (control) and significantly (P < 0.05) higher than observed amongst PLs fed on the two new artificial diets. The growth of PL fed on PL+ 150 was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than the growth of PL fed on F7. There was no significant (P > 0.05) differences in the survival of PLs fed on the live A. nauplii, shell free and PL+ 150, but the survival with these three diets was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than the survival of PLs fed on F7. Artificial feeds showed poor water stability with protein leach increasing with time, although, the feed PL+ 150 was more stable in water than F7.
