In this feeding trial, four diets were evaluated in a five-week period. Diets contained 20, 35, 55 and 75 percent of the total protein provided by soybean meal, replacing 25, 45, 45, and 80 percent of the protein provided by fish meal. Feeds were administered to Penaeus vannamei juveniles with an average weight of 4.3 g. Shrimp were stocked in one square metre cages at a density of 10 organisms/cage. Cages were placed in a 4.9 hectare semi-intensive culture pond located at 'La Atanasia' demonstrativeshrimp farm, 65 km southwest of Cd. Obregon Sonara, Mexico. No significant differences were found (P>0.05) in percent weight gain, feed conversion factor or survival rate. It is believed that the natural productivity of the pond absorbed the possible nutrional differences between diets.
