The effect of magnetic field superposition on electrolysis carried out in magnetic fields generated inside a solenoid is analysed using the theory of magnetohydrodynamics. It is shown that induced field inhomogeneity is responsible for the creation of local vortex motion which enhances ionic mass transport rates. A detailed vorticity analysis of two laboratory-scale, and a pilot plant-scale experimental magnetoelectrolytic cell serves for illustration. [References: 33]
