A study was carried out to evaluate the effects of shading and plant growth regulators (PGRs) on bulb yield and some plant characters of summer snowflake (L. aestivum) under Samsun, Turkey, ecological conditions during 2000-02. During the first 2 years, planted bulbs were left to growth and in the third year, at the beginning of vegetation, selected plots were shaded with 0.635 cm polyethylene mesh and PGRs gibberellic acid (GA3; at 50, 100, 250 and 500 ppm) and NAA (at 500, 1000, 2500 and 5000 ppm) were sprayed on both shaded and unshaded plots. Four applications were made with a one week interval for the PGRs. During vegetation, plant height and leaf number per plant, and after harvest, bulb diameter, bulb height, lateral bulb number per harvested bulb and bulb yield were determined. Both shading and PGR treatments had significant effects on the parameters evaluated.
