Decompression Retinopathy andSerous Retinal Detachment AfterTrabeculotomy in a Patient withSystemic Amyloidosis

Several cases of postoperative retinal hemorrhage associated with a sudden intraocular pressure (IOP) decrease, referred to as decompression retinopathy, have been reported after trabeculectomy.1 Patients typically have extremely high preoperative IOP values (range, 40-60 mmHg) and very low postoperative IOP values (range, 2-7 mmHg). Decompression retinopathy, however, is extremely rare after trabeculotomy,2 probably because the postoperative IOP is higher during this procedure compared with during filtration surgery. In this report, we describe unique chorioretinal complications, including retinal hemorrhage and serous retinal detachment bilaterally, after trabeculotomies in a patient with systemic amyloidosis.
