The occurrence of lignite in the Tharparkar region of Sindh Province, Pakistan, has been known and investigate Although a number of studies haw been carried out, no commercial lignite mining has taken place during this period. Through its subsidiary, Sindh Carbon Energy Ltd, UK-based Oracle Coalfields plc has been issued an exploration licence by the Mines and Mineral Development Department, Government of Sindh, and has recently undertaken a pre-feasibility study of an exploration block designated Block VI within the Thar Coalfield. Oracle is currently conducting a full bankable feasibility Study with a view to commencing opencast mining at the end of 2011.
