We investigated a bearing measured for shaft inclination with a thin cylindrical surface at bearing end, whose axial length is a and its thickness is t. Bearing dimensions are D = 28.6 mm and L=12 mm. The load capacity was calculated for a shaft inclination of Δε under conditions in which the inclination angle, α, was 90°and the minimum film thickness, h{sub}(min), was 2.0 μm. We came to the following conclusions: (1) The detailed calculation procedures to obtain a solution for pressure and bearing deformation are described. (2) The bearing takes its maximum load capacity at a certain amount of Δe. The load capacity behavior as a function of Δε keeping the parameter a/L constant is discussed. (3) Under the given load and a/L = 0.5, the operational range for AE is given by 0 < Δε< 0.81. (4) The parameter t influences the magnitude of the load capacity and its position of Δε. (5) The choice of parameters a/L and t is important. The load capacity reaches fivefold of a rigid bearing under a/L = 0.5, choosing an appropriate t.
