The World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Obesity Prevention, Deakin University in Australia, and the School of Population Health at the University of Auckland in New Zealand reported a reduction in overweight and obesity in Australia. Three months after the Be Active Eat Well program in Victoria, Australia, ended in 2009, the researchers conducted a cross-sectional study of children in intervention and control group primary schools. They found a lower prevalence of overweight and obesity in both cohorts. Overall, they observed an 8% point decrease in overweight and obesity during the 6 years from baseline. The researchers suggested "a possible 'viral spread' of obesity prevention actions across the wider region."
