Recombinant mammalian cell-derived somatropin is structurally identical to human pituitary growth hormone In patients with HIV-associated wasting, once-daily or alternate-day somatropin administered by subcutaneous injection effectively increases work output, bodyweight and lean body mass and improves health-related quality of life relative to placebo. Adverse events are generally manageable and predictable.
