Ceria and ceria-based solid solutions are widely used as components of polishing blends and abrasives, anticorrosion coatings, catalysts, solid oxide fuel cells, etc. [1, 2]. In the last decade, much interest has been aroused in studying these compounds, which is due to the fact that nanocrystalline ceria is characterized by considerable oxygen nonstoichiometry responsible for its high biological activity [3—8].
