A Development of Spraytool Technology to Drive Down Cycle Times in Aluminum and Magnesium Pressure Die Casting

The die lubricant and its application equipment are essential parts of the pressure die casting process. The correct lubricant, in good condition, with optimized application, will add greatly to the efficiency of the process through cycle time reduction and may allow more complex or structurally demanding castings to be produced. In contrast, a badly selected lubricant applied in an inappropriate manner will severely limit the effectiveness of the process and contribute to lower production rates and poor quality castings. Deltacast FlexTool, launched at GIFA 2007 and protected by patents, is an incremental development of Acheson's spraytool portfolio that is designed to marry the positive die-mirroring feature of modular spraytools and external atomization technology of Acheson's nozzles whilst removing much of the complexity of design and build of older generation modular tool systems. The application of this technology gives an extremely flexible spraytool that has been proven to substantially reduce cycle times across a wide variety of applications. This paper will explain the technology and functionality of the Deltacast FlexTool and showcase studies where its application has delivered significant process savings to die casters making a wide variety of components.
