Synthesis and Properties of Bis-Arylides of 3-Hydroxy-2-naphthoic Acid, Derivatives of 1,4-Phenylenediamines

Bis arylides of 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid were synthesised by heating a pyridine solution of 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid and 1,4-phenylenediamine or its derivatives, in the presence of phosphorus trichloride. The suitability of chlorobenzene in this reaction was also demonstrated.
