Editor's note: Once each year, in August, USDA releases an exhaustive study of trends in farm real estate values, cropland values and pasture values as of January 1. It also looks at trends in cash rent for cropland and pastureland. The 2008 study wasreleased this week, assessing what happened in 2007. in cropland values continued to slow in 2007. Though they popped another 10.4% on average, to yet another record high across the U.S. on Jan. 1, 2008, that increase was down from the 13% jump recorded on Jan. 1, 2007, which was also just shy of the 15% jump by Jan. 1, 2006. But the average figure came in just shy of 3,000 per acre dollar, at 2,970 dollar for cropland alone, up 270 per acre dollar from last year.
