On the Sadovski oe Problem of Block Structures

The prognosis of seismic events (earthquakes) is an urgent problem in modern science. Academician M.A. Sadovski oe sequentially proved that it is impossible to estimate the actual seismicity on the basis of the Earth stratified-structure model. He considered that only passage to the description of the structure of the Earth’s mantle and lithospheric planes as piecelike block structures allows us to approach the desired results [1–4]. Sadovski oe and his colleagues have managed to substantiate this standpoint. They have collected many facts and performed a number of physicomathematical studies. Sadovski oe considered that it is possible to develop a mathematical theory of block structures similar to that of stratified media, which was described in [5, 6]. On the basis of this theory, analysis of wave processes and stress-strain states of lithospheric planes can be performed. This method makes it possible to recognize much more complicated processes than those described by the model of stratified media.
