Every physical asset, such as an offshore platform or vessel, should have a digital asset associated with it, with all of the relevant information, said Christopher Cran, enterprise product manager with AVEVA Solutions Ltd, speaking at the Digital Energy Journal Aberdeen conference on November 28, "doing more with offshore engineering data". The digital asset can make it much easier and faster to work with the physical asset, he said. This is critical when project time frames are getting shorter and shorter. For Woodside Energy's Angel Platform, off the Northwest coast of Australia, a complete digital asset was put together before physical construction of the platform. Woodside managed to get production started up to 50,000 bopd in just one day, he said, and the digital asset was very helpful in achieving that. Having a digital asset also means that there is no big step in moving between design, construction and operations - the same digital system is used continuously.
