Agricultural Policy Report for 2007: sale proceeds from mushrooms rise to 132 million euros.

Germany's production of mushrooms during 2006 totalled 59,000 tonnes, earning a total of 132 million euros, 6.5% up on 2005. Producer prices excluding VAT rose from euro 2,039 to euro 2,243/t., compared with a low of euro 1,743 in 2002. The upward trend has not been uniform, the rate of growth having fluctuated between 0.3 and 10%. The Central Market and Price Report Centre's data show average proceeds of euro 227.39/dt in 2002, euro 198.22/dt in 2005, and a recovery to euro 205.13/dt in 2006. In the specialist vegetable sector, of which mushrooms represented 7.39 and 6.95% in 2005 and 2006 respectively, average profit per enterprise for 2005-06 was euro 45,894, 34% up on 2004-05. Profit per worker was euro 17,888, up euro 3,400 but still below the figure of euro 19,593 for 2000-01. Mushrooms constituted 2.46-2.46% of general horticultural production during this period. Here profit per enterprise for 2005-06 averaged euro 40,495 compared with euro 34,408 the previous year, a return to the 2000-01 level. Profit per worker was euro 21,000. There are indications of increasing labour-intensity in this sector.
