The formation of oily core/polymer shell nanocapsules may be elaborated by interfacial polymerisation at the oil/water interface. This may be achieved by the copolymerisation of water-soluble and oil-soluble monomers and in this study the preparation of copolymers from St, DVB, NIPAmd and y-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane in miniemulsion is described. Initially NIPAmd was dissolved in the other monomers and mixed with hydrocarbon oil (either hexadecane or octane) with the oil phase then being added to SDS solution containing a phosphate buffer. This was sonicated to produce a miniemulsion prior to thermal initiation with KPS.
