Treatment of diesel engine exhaust is becoming an increasingly important issue in the industry, and the performance and lifetime behavior of such systems is under strict focus. Together with NO{sub}x abatement systems, particulate filtration is the area where massive research and improvements are done. The Danish company Notox has developed honeycomb structured diesel particulate filters (DPF) constructed of silicon carbide (SiC). This configuration is designed to have a very high maximum safe soot load and not be sensitive to uneven distribution of soot in the filter. Notox has been a supplier of DPFs for more than a decade and the combination of the SiC material and the thermal design secures a filter monolith with durability and performance, the company said.
