What might be the very first Chinese-built vehicle to be marketed in the U.S. is equally at home on the highway, off-road and in the water. The Rodedawg, manufactured by the Beijing Automotive Works Ltd. (BAW) and marketed by Rodedawg International Industries Inc., is an amphibious, 4×4 off-road recreational vehicle. It is being marketed in three versions: 4×4 SUV, 4×4 truck and 4×4 convertible. The Rodedawg, designated the BJ5032, is based on the Jeep-like BJ2020 (originaUy the BJ212) utility vehicle developed for the People's Liberation Army in 1965, as well as the newer BJ2035 civilian SUV version. The BJ2020-series has been improved over the years and its technology has benefited from a joint venture between BAW and DaimlerChrysler that builds Jeep Cherokees for the Chinese market. A military reconnaissance version of the amphibious Rodedawng has been used by the Chinese military for several years.
