Historically, condition-based maintenance has had a strong equipment focus. Wartsila is applying a more synergistic approach, broadening its concept to encompass a full life-cycle solution. The company said it is convinced maximizing the life-cycle efficiency of vessels will lead to a better return on investment and a reduction of cost per unit of cargo carried. In an environment characterized by changing geographical demand in commodities and increasingly strict environmental regulations, the rapid deployment of new assets and the sale and purchase of existing ones are vital to maintaining asset viability. It is a challenge that goes beyond just ensuring the technical availability of a vessel.
