It's almost three years to the day since Suzuki launched the current model Swift, a car that aped its predecessors' good looks, but with additional space, cuter looks and a more rounded profile. But the motor industry doesn't stand still, so that's why the Japanese company is wheeling out a mild facelift for its Fiesta-sized rival. Diesel versions are more frugal, with 72.4mpg claimed on the combined cycle (previously 67.3mpg) while CO_2 has been cut from 109 to 101 g/km, though frustratingly misses out on a free tax disc by just one gramme. You'll need to be a real Suzuki geek to spot the changes made to the new Swift, as the update is best described as subtle. There's a fresh new bumper with integrated LED daytime running lights and a new grille, as well as a revised high level brake light at the rear. And whereas the previous generation car was available solely in mid-range SZ3 trim, the new car has had an uplift in equipment and now wears the SZ4 badge. As a result the only diesel model now costs ￡1,440 more than the outgoing edition, at ￡15,139. Extra equipment compared to before includes climate control, electric windows all round, rear privacy glass, cruise control, keyless start and automatic headlights. There's also a new four-wheel-drive edition of the Swift, but sadly that's only available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.
