Ahead of the Frankfurt motor show, Ford gave us a glimpse into the future, with a chance to experience three of their alternative fuel products. Ian Robertson reports. The launch of the Ford's Mondeo has to be one of the most protracted launches ever. Caught up in a restructuring exercise that saw its original plant of manufacturer axed, the next generation car will finally go into production next year at the company's Valencia plant in Spain, instead of Genk, Belgium. We've been keen to get our hands on a new Mondeo to drive, but with the car due to arrive in showrooms around a year from now, Ford has so far been unwilling for any media to get behind the wheel. But thanks to a glimpse into the future of alternative fuels, we've been able to sample the Mondeo, albeit in American specification, Fusion Hybrid guise. Mechanically identical, just the name badges and detail changes will separate the two cars, and so it's a good first look at what we can expect from the big Ford. And although the Hybrid will only be available in saloon guise, the Mondeo will be sold in hatchback and estate bodystyles too.
