Productivity need not cost the Earth

Productivity in a diecasting plant is the result of many interactive elements: the most efficient machine and die performance, the optimum shot rate, the best mould release over a wide temperature range, the lowest porosity, the brightest, cleanest and best protected finished components. There is no question that lubrication plays a major role in achieving high productivity. Good lubricants, properly applied, can vastly improve equipment performance and life, and the quality of finished product. But these benefits come at a price. The two major products - plunger and dieface lubricants - are 'total loss'. They are either-burned away, or after a single use join a waste stream with other lubricants from hydraulic systems and mechanical linkages. At worst, that cocktail of waste lubricants becomes a costly liability, because in a world that grows ever more environmentally demanding, waste contractors need to be increasingly selective about what they take, and about what they charge for doing so.
