Rapid growth in flower production, export, and breeding has occurred recently in Korea. More growers own their land and greenhouses for flower production with advanced facilities and technologies. With more experience and skills, better quality flowers will be produced. There are increasing flower markets for export including China and Japan, indicating that high quality products from Korea can be exported to foreign markets. With emerging new flower-exporting countries worldwide, increased competition is expected. Thus, Korean growers need a unified organization for mutual benefits as well as the development of Korean floricultural industries. They need trained extension specialists for certain crops. There is a need to shift from government-led floriculture to a privatized industry, in research, breeding, and extension. However, even in face of problems, the prospect for Korean floriculture is promising and the industry is primed to take a leading role in world flower markets.
