Energy Capital Partners, the private equity firm backing Power Holdings' US$2.3 billion coal to synthetic natural gas plant proposed for Downstate Illinois is planning to sell its stake in the project, Chicago Tribune reported, citing the trade publication Power Finance & Risk. The decision comes less than a month after Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation that effectively allowed the plant to progress to construction. The legislation would require the state's four major utilities to buy the SNG produced by the plant for the next 10 years. The SNG will be piped to Illinois homes.
