EPA reconsidering cellulosic ethanol blending mandates

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering reducing cellulosic ethanol blending mandates amid slower-than-expected commercialization of the industry, International Business Times reported. EPA had planned for businesses to blend 18.1 billion gallons of ethanol into gasoline in 2014, with cellulosic ethanol representing a growing but insignificant portion of this amount. In 2007, plans were for 36 billion gallons of ethanol to be blended into gasoline by 2022.
