Iron Range Gasification Project on the Verge as it Seeks Additional Funding, New Fuel Source

Excelsior Energy seeks additional funding to continue preliminary design of its proposed Me-saba. Energy ..Project, Duluth News-Tribune reported. Despite already receiving US$40 million in federal and state government funding, the company risks running out of funds to support further development of the project if it cannot attract additional investment soon. The funds already awarded include US$22 million in DOE funding, US$9.5 million in loans from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board and US$10 million from the Minnesota Renewable Development Fund. The company has already spent 90 percent of federal funding approved for project development.
