India's Union Coal Ministry Hopeful for Greener Coal Technology in Next Two Years

India's Union Coal Ministry hopes that India's coal-fired power plants would adopt 'greener' technologies in the next two years. The ministry is considering clean coal technologies such as coal-to-liquids (CTL) and underground coal gasification (UCG). In December, Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal and Coal India Limited (CIL) met with South African officials in regard to these technologies. "The ministry has asked Coal India Limited (CIL) to prepare a detailed proposal about the speedy adoption of CTL technology," Jaiswal said.
