Since the announcement several years ago of Australia's intention to topple Qatar as the world's largest LNG exporter, the country has been the subject of initial interest, followed by growing concerns for its ambitions. When initially proposed, many Australian projects seemed highly promising on the basis of proximity to key Asian markets, as well as abundant conventional offshore gas (in the west and north), or coal seam gas (in the east).
