Electric power generators EPM, Colinversiones, and ISAGEN, are planning a US$350 million LNG regasification facility on Columbia's Pacific Coast to take advantage of their close proximity to liquefaction plants in Peru, Platts reported March 5, citing a top industry official. The regulators are mulling the terminal in response to a December 2010 report by Colombia's Regulatory Commission for Energy and Gas warning of an upcoming gas shortage. However, the country's natural gas industry association, NaturGas, disagrees and claims that Colombia has at least seven years worth of gas, a timeline that could easily be extended as producers improve recovery methods.
