Following a statement by Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson that his company needed clearer signals from the State to continue the development of its Yamal LNG project, the Russian government has asked its ministries of Finance, Economic Development and Energy to draft legislation for a zero mineral extraction tax regime. The draft legislation proposes to wave tax on gas produced on the Yamal peninsula until the accumulated volume reaches 250 bcm (8.83 tcf).. However, the developer has only 12 years to produce the gas, according to news agency, Ria Novosti.
