Poland Opens Energy Market, Planning Gas Production by 2014

Polish energy regulators have taken a huge step in opening up its natural gas market to foreign investors, Upstream Online reported. Poland's parliament passed a new law "making [it] easier for firms to start operations [in] the Polish market," economy minister Waldemar Pawlak said. Companies who enter the 14-billion cubic meter gas market are now permitted to sell twice the amount of gas; before, they were required to hold reserves to 100 cubic meters annually. PGNiG has been reluctant to allow access to the country's resources.
