It's good for more than just fertilizing your garden. Today, cow manure is gaining attention in Canada as a readily available source of power that has been used in other parts of the world for decades. Engineer Benjamin Strehler of Ottawa's Keller Engineering Associates says Canada lags far behind countries such as China, where there are some four million anaerobic digesters operating today, and India, with about one million. "Europe is increasingly paying attention to the biogas technology as a renewable, low-fuel energy source," Strehler says. "The wheel does not have to be reinvented when promoting the biogas technology. European technology is proven to work reliably under Canadian environmental conditions."
