Hypertrophic osteodystrophy in a Great Dane associated with chronic omphalitis, persistent urachus and rupture of the bladder.

A 6-month-old Great Dane puppy was presented because of a reduced general condition [Germany, date not given]. Examination revealed a case of hypertrophic osteodystrophy. During hospitalization, the dog developed ascites caused by rupture of the bladder. As cause for the rupture, a persistent urachus and chronic omphalitis could be identified, which had led to necrosis of the bladder wall. This article gave a short overview of the current knowledge concerning hypertrophic osteodystrophy. Diagnosis and the course of this case were presented.
