Yeung and colleagues1 have attempted to address some of the important concerns. Their hypothesis is that, by using a lower concentration of amino-levulinic acid (ALA) in a liposomal formulation, one could increase the specificity of sebaceous gland uptake, reducing epidermal uptake, exfoliation, and extended photosensitivity. It worked. They had good results: 70% reduction of acne lesions with no significant complications.
