Is soybean patch testing a valid diagnostic tool for adult atopic dermatitis? A comparison of two methods.

Atopic eczema-dermatitis syndrome (AEDS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with recurrent intense itching.1 The role of food allergy in promoting and maintaining the eczematous lesions is controversial in regard to adult patients.This study focused on (1) the role of soy ingestion, by correlating the results of skin-prick testing (SPT) and soy atopy patch testing (APT) with soy repeated open food challenge, and (2) extemporaneously performed APT with soy flour (APTS) versus soy ready-to-use APT (APTR) in an adult population with persistent AEDS.
