Alopecia areata is a common skin disorder, which is considered as an autoimmune disease. This disfiguring condition affects human body hair, mainly on the scalp, usually by inducing patchy hair loss. The most common nonsurgical technique to treat alopecia areata is the intralesional injection of corticosteroids; however, its most frequent local complication-atrophic scarring-may increase symptoms such as depression, anxiety, or other discomforts.
