Badgers are regularly blamed for TB outbreaks, but how guilty are they? A new report from the National Federation of Badger Groups claims they are not always to blame. Proposals for a solution to the badger and bovine tuberculosis problem have been presented to MAFF by the National Federation of Badger Groups. The document calls for an immediate halt to the slaughter of badgers and a revised approach to controlling the disease. "Despite the introduction of the present badger culling policy, which hasseen 1,000 killed each year, TB incidence in herds in the south-west of England has seen a huge increase," says Dr Warren Cresswell, a NFBG representative. "This strategy has obviously failed and the way forward is to adopt a broadly based approach to disease control."
