Trial results show double cobbing lifts starch yields

Following early scepticism of double cobbed maize, trials were carried out last year to determine whether there were inherent benefits over single cobbed varieties. Grainseed's James Todd gives us the results.nitial trials of the UK's first double cobbing variety are showing plants producing strong double cobs with an overall average 15-20% higher starch yield per hectare than conventional high energy varieties producing single cobs. Introduced last year, the variety Marco has now been successfully grown on 33 sites in various locations around the UK, but the results are forcing advisers to rethink many of our conventional husbandry practices, says James Todd of maize specialists Grainseed.
