Getting ready for new nitrogen regulations

Although we still await the final nitrate regulations, dairy farmers can take measures now to prepare for the change and to that end DairyCo has launched a simple but effective tool to help in the process. Few dairy farmers in Britain will be unaffected by the new proposals to restrict nitrate pollution, and although details of the rules have yet to be confirmed, there is some preparatory groundwork that producers can be doing. The new regulations are being driven by the ED Nitrates Directive, which has already seen large swathes of Britain designated a 'Nitrate Vulnerable Zone' and limited the amount of slurry and manure that can be spread on the land.
