The US is widely regarded as the home of TMR so you would think that American farmers have little to learn about complete diet feeding. Angela Rhodes finds out why US producers are now looking to this side of the Atlantic to improve feed efficiency.Few would argue that TMR has revolutionised the way we feed high yielding dairy cows and US producers have been regarded as the leading exponents of complete diet feeding. TMR has been used extensively in the US for the best part of 30 years and around 80 percent of cows are now fed by the ubiquitous feeder wagon. But the high yields from rocket fuel feed that are synonymous with US production systems have come at the cost of high replacement rates and herd health problems.
