The fail in milk production over the past 18 months has caused an intriguing struggle in the UK dairy industry as power has gradually moved down the chain as milk output has fallen and the pound weakened. Understanding where milk output is now headingis of fundamental interest as it will have a major impact on individual businesses across the whole of the chain. For the past two years, Kite Consulting has projected forward milk production for the UK based upon the historical statistical trends and the prevailing economic climate. We compared UK milk production to a supertanker, which is difficult to turn around quickly, and so far this analogy has not been far off the mark.
