What are we doing with 7000 cattle parked on local farms?

I ended 2006 with a swipe at the Food Standards Agency and the EU's contemptuous treatment of Rowland Dairies which had effectively closed them down. Now we have a similar situation in the SW, again originating with those unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats of the European Union but administered by Defra or its myriad of devolved agencies with power for which they show little responsibility. Why is it that when a problem is found, inspectors from these agencies holster their pens and walk away? In late November, a brain sample apparently went 'missing' from the SW abattoir, West Devon Meat. It was subsequently found as a doubled up sample - two in one pot, and so was not 'missing' at all -but with revolutionary zeal, the FSA/Defra immediately withdrew West Devon's OTM licence. Not a mention that the samples were taken under MHS supervision and, of course, absolutely no thought at all for the 1000 cattle per week taken by this abattoir, now with nowhere to go and stacking up on local farms.
