When ten of us, including the vet, sat down to Sunday lunch last weekend the subjects discussed were badgers, hunting, badgers, passports and badgers, in that order. Little did we think as we tucked into a pair of ribs on the bone, reared on a local farm and bought from the village butcher, that this dish was again under threat. Everyone has been complaining at the way the timetable to remove the OTMS regulations has slipped, which has not entirely been the fault of Defra but more to do with Europeanred tape and the inadequacies of the Meat Hygiene Service, but did we expect the spectre of meat on the bone to raise its ugly head again? I managed to maintain a supply of ribs of beef on the bone through the last ban but to be threatened with it all over again makes my blood boil!
