Paul emigrated to New Zealand in 1976 and, after starting as a relief milker, he worked his way up through the share farming system to full farm ownership. He is just about to move to a new dairy farm on New Zealand's South Island with his wife Shirley. My day of judgement draws nigh! The one part of our new venture which I'mtruly dreading begins on Wednesday at 6,00am when five massive truck and trailer units will arrive to be loaded with 240 cows. I am going to travel with them to Southland, leaving Shirley to clean up and then drive down towing our big tandem axle trailer. One of her friends is driving a pickup laden with our dogs, which should make them popular wherever they stop! Valium tablets for my hounds may prevent their eviction from motels, but four days driving with our easily bored six-year-old daughter and a car sick cat could make travelling in a truck with the herd a comparatively pleasant option.
