Paul emigrated to New Zealand in 1976 and worked his way up through the share farming system to full farm ownership with his wife Shirley. They sold their hilly 89ha dairy farm on the North Island last year and have converted a 160ha sheep farm on theSouth Island to dairying. Every spring, I look forward to the start of summertime: the long, bright evenings giving an opportunity to cast a hopeful fly on the restless waters of a gin-clear Southland trout stream. Every spring, I buy a fishing licencein anticipation, and every spring passes and I promise myself that next year, I will actually make the time to go fishing at least once.
